It’s that special time of the year. Time to figure out what stocks to pick up on the cheap by the end of the month only to sell them in May.
Just now I’m making a list and checking it twice, to figure who has been beaten up to no end.
This year the S&P 500 index was down 3.1% from June 1 through Thursday. It was up 2.4% the first half through May, and for year to date its down 0.8%.
Next year is a presidential election, so returns will be skewed, but we don’t have to make that sell order for 5 months or so.
Some of the widely helds have been beat up to no end. They are labeled FANG: Apple comes to mind, while others have had a good run despite the 2nd half downturn.
Netflix soared 151% YTD, Google up 42%, Facebook 36%, Apple is down for the first time in memory YTD 1.3%.
I make no stock recommendations, I’m laying out what I do at this time of the year. I’ll have other ideas as we get closer to the end of the year.
