A new poll was just released by Siena College, which is chuck full of opinions that should have Albany Democrats shaking.

Seventy-two percent of New Yorkers want to give judges more leeway in setting bail for those accused of serious crimes. And that feeling goes across the political spectrum with 76% of Democrats, 71% of independents and 69% of Republicans, according to the poll.

The poll also showed 92% of New Yorkers believe crime is “very serious” or “somewhat serious” of a problem statewide, and 65% have the same feeling about their own community.

Blacks had the lowest approval rating on changing bail reform with only 65% supporting toughening of the guidelines.

Other issues polled by the college were: the poll covered, a 58% majority expressed support for Gov. Kathy Hochul’s proposed statewide ban on flavored tobacco, while 34% opposed the idea.

Looking ahead to 2024 Former President Donald Trump leads Republican rival Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, by 52% to 27% among GOP respondents and 43% of Democrats want to renominate President Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate, while 51% want a different candidate.
