Here is where we are today, while millions of Americans have lost their jobs and are on unemployment and food stamps, Congress is debating genders and how many bathrooms we need to have in public.
The House of Representatives passed the Equality Act, which amends the 1964 Civil Rights Act to avert the “discrimination on the basis of sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.”
Long story short this bill states, “An individual shall not be denied access to a shared facility, including a restroom, a locker room and a dressing room, that is in accordance with the individual’s gender identity.”
In the Senate Dr. Rachel Levine, a man who identifies as a woman was questioned repeatedly by Senator Rand Paul about giving children hormones and gender changing operations in a confirmation hearing to become deputy health secretary.
“Transgender medicine is a very complex and nuanced field with robust research and standards of care that have been developed,” Dr. Levine told Sen. Paul, promising to discuss the issue further with the Kentucky senator if confirmed.
I find it hard to believe these are the most important issues of the day. I know there will be a day in the future when we look back at this time where we allow young children to decide they are transgender — without parental consent — in horror. At least that is my hope.
Let me also state that Dr. Levine, who is currently the Pennsylvania Health Secretary, also allowed Covid-19 infected people into nursing homes like New York state. However Levine took her mother out of a nursing home before approving the measure.
There are so many more important issues that need to be addressed, but this is what Congress is faced with right now.
