House Republican lawmakers on Tuesday introduced three articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden criticizing his handling of Afghanistan pullout, immigration, and the now-defunct federal eviction moratorium.
Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-OH) along with co-sponsors: Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ); Brian Babin (R-TX) and Randy Weber (R-TX), admittedly know the articles will go nowhere in the Democratic-led House.
“I take this seriously. I don’t think it’s haphazard. I’m not trying to get media attention for myself,” Gibbs told the press. “He’s done so much damage to this country in less than nine months, which is really scary.”
“Obviously, it’s not going to go anywhere with Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi,” Gibbs said. “It shows that there are some Republicans that think that this president needs to be impeached, he needs to be removed from office one way or another.
“At some point, they’re gonna be held accountable for their actions, and this is kind of putting them on notice,” he added.
While Gibbs conceding it was largely a symbolic measure he is hoping it will have an effect on the Biden administration. “Maybe something like this makes the White House think twice before they do some of this nonsense,” Gibbs said.
The articles of impeachment news came as a new Gallop Poll showed Biden’s approval rating has fallen below his Vice President Kamala Harris.
The poll said the president’s approval rating has plummeted 13 points since June, now sitting at a dismal 43%, the lowest of his presidency and “For the first time, a majority, 53%, now disapproves of Biden’s performance,” Gallop wrote.
In appears the country is divided on the Veep’s rating with 49% approving and 49% not approving.
