DeSantis ad features NY snow birds squawking

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has a new election ad that features former New Yorkers and other northeast transplants.

The ingenious ad has former New Yorkers grousing about the state of things here and how they look forward to voting for DeSantis in the next election.

“I’m a New Yorker,” declares one woman. “And now I’m living in Florida.”

Another Empire State escapee is asked where her native soil ranks in terms of general freedom.

“I think we’re pretty much at the bottom,” the woman replies.

“You’re number zero,” a DeSantis aide interjects.

To add a sweetener to the ad it also features photos of Queens Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez clutching an alfresco cocktail during a December jaunt to Miami not wearing a mask.

I believe the ad would work better as a recruitment ad for the state along the same lines as the I Love NY ads. Not sure how many native Floridians feel about the influx of fed up New Yorkers moving in.

DeSantis is expected to have a major Republican role in the 2024 presidential election, what exactly that role will be is unclear at this time but should come into focus after the midterm elections in November.

One recent action taken by DeSantis shows why he is so popular with Republicans and ex-Democrats.

He issued a proclamation Tuesday that declared the runner-up to be the “rightful winner” of a 500-yard freestyle competition instead of transgender NCAA champion Lia Thomas.

The Republican governor named University of Virginia freshman Emma Weyant as the champion after she was defeated by Thomas, 22, in the NCAA swimming competition Thursday by 1.75 seconds.

“By allowing men to compete in women’s sports, the NCAA is destroying opportunities for women, making a mockery of its championships, and perpetuating a fraud,” DeSantis wrote on Twitter. “In Florida, we reject these lies and recognize Sarasota’s Emma Weyant as the best women’s swimmer in the 500 yard freestyle.”

These moves by DeSantis certainly exploit the divide between the two parties, however he is building a solid base to launch a strong national campaign for 2024.

A line not used in the ad but seems to be appropriate would be: Florida is the sunshine state, while New York is the sunset state.
