Gov. Hochul should take cue from Gov. DeSantis

Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy slammed New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday for not dumping “prosecutors that won’t uphold the law” — as he railed against the Big Apple’s soft-on-crime policies.

The GOP leader, who was in Manhattan to host a roundtable with local law enforcement, lashed out at Hochul after her campaign put out a statement ahead of his visit calling him an “insurrection apologist.”

“Really?” McCarthy laughed as he was asked about Hochul’s criticism of him. “I would simply say to the governor, get rid of the prosecutors that won’t uphold the law. You have the power to do it, do it today.”

Earlier on Thursday Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that, effective immediately, his administration would be suspending State Attorney Andrew Warren because the prosecutor was not charging criminals for their crimes.

Unlike Hochul, who has the same power to fire Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, DeSantis called out the “woke” prosecutor saying, “When you flagrantly violate your oath of office, when you make yourself above the law, you have violated your duty, you have neglected your duty and you are displaying a lack of competence to be able to perform those duties.”

DeSantis added,”We are not going to allow this pathogen that’s been around the country of ignoring the law. We are not going to let that get a foothold here in the state of Florida. We are going to make sure that our laws are enforced and that no individual prosecutor puts himself above the law, and I can tell you the states and the localities that have allowed this to happen, they are ruing the day.”

Hochul for her part decided not to participate in the roundtable and tweeted, “Thanks but no thanks. Kevin McCarthy is welcome to come back when he’s actually done something to combat gun violence and keep our communities safe — thoughts and prayers don’t count.”

Her spokesperson went even further saying, “The notion that McCarthy and Zeldin support law enforcement has been thoroughly debunked by their actions on Jan. 6 and thereafter,” spokesman, Jerrel Harvey, said.

“With more than 140 officers injured during the attempted coup and five officer deaths subsequently linked to the riot inspired by Trump’s Big Lie, their hypocrisy of standing with law enforcement is glaring.

“While McCarthy and Zeldin are eager to tout their purported support for police, they will always be known as extremists who sided with insurrection over law and order.”

That’s the ultimate difference between DeSantis and Hochul. The former will fight crime, while the latter will fight justice.

November will tell us which philosophy should prevail.
