Unlike the Vice President I do not see Memorial Day as just an extended weekend.

Today is a hollowed day to all the Gold Star military men and women and their families who gave the supreme sacrifice for our country and way of life.

Although Memorial Day is a day of remembrance, it is not a day for grief or mourning. Rather, it is a day for remembering and giving thanks.

General George S. Patton said it best of the soldiers and sailors who we have lost: “It is wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God such men lived.”

Indeed, we should. America has survived as a nation for more than 240 years because brave men and women are willing to die for an idea; the idea that God granted them, in the words of Thomas Jefferson, “certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

While Memorial Day means the unofficial start of summer, we should all take a moment to remember those who gave so much for our country.

There is a very good meme showing an image of soldiers storming the Normandy shore on D-Day saying these men took the beach so we could go to the beach.

So today, whether you are at the beach or at a cookout with friends, take a moment to reflect on the heroes you know. It is what made America great, despite Veep Kamala Harris.
