New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s message to the city’s restaurant and bar owners and their patrons is let them eat cake.

The Mayor reiterated on Wednesday that indoor dining in the city is a guilty pleasure for the rich, which isn’t worth the risk for the city during the Covid-19 pandemic despite a very low infection rate.

“Indoor dining, which is obviously a very optional activity, which some people do a lot who have the resources and others can’t do at all because they don’t have the resources,” de Blasio told reporters at a press conference.

So once again we see a mayor playing class warfare by citing only the people with means dine out and since most will never come back to the city anytime soon why should we placate them.

Is de Blasio so out of touch that he doesn’t know that many of the people on soup kitchen lines in the city once worked in the restaurant trade?

As I wrote on Wednesday, NYC has lost 646,000 jobs as compared to last year. NYC’s food industry employed more than 300,000 people before the Covid-19 shutdown.

Both de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo keep slapping themselves on the back for the great job they believe they did to stem the tens of thousands of deaths in the state and city due to their decisions, yet both of these Democrats continue to punish city residents with their capricious actions.

To speak of New York’s restaurant industry as something not too important tells me that de Blasio and Cuomo do not have the city’s best interest in their hearts.

New York’s dining — from the many five-star restaurants to the corner pizza places — is essential to the city’s lifeline. So for de Blasio to play the class warfare card on them is almost treasonous.

Cuomo last month said he was calling the city’s billionaires asking them to come back. He offered to take them out to dinner and then quickly said he would cook for them since he knew he could not entice them with a meal on the streets next to a pile of garbage.

If these Democrats want to cripple this city, then keeping the restaurants and bars from having indoor dining, while Nassau and Westchester counties are open, is a great way to go about it.

It’s all politics and has little to do with facts.
