Feds probing Cuomo’s nursing home deaths

The FBI and federal lawyers are probing New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and his Covid-19 task force over its handling of placing infected patients in nursing homes.

The US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York will lead the investigation since task force member Melissa DeRosa’s mother-in-law is acting chief of NY’s Southern District.

DeRosa’s admission on a conference call to fellow state Democratic lawmakers explaining the under reported number of deaths in nursing homes last week caused Cuomo to face fierce bipartisan criticism.

DeRosa admitted the Cuomo administration “froze” after former President Trump said the Department of Justice should look into the number of deaths in New York nursing homes.

Last month state Attorney General Letitia James released a damning report suggesting that the number of deaths were under reported by as much as 50 percent.

After James released her findings, state Health Commissioner Howard Zucker, another member of the Covid-19 task force, updated the nursing home death numbers from 8,711 to 12,743. Earlier this week that number was revised to 13,432.

In other Cuomo news CNN has stopped show host Chris Cuomo from “interviewing or covering his brother,” the network said. This comes after the younger brother ignored the growing controversy on his recent news shows.
