Joe Biden is wildcard in Senate impeachment vote

Be very careful what you wish for Rep. Adam Schiff.

The lead House Manager spent most of the first day of Senate questions imploring the chamber to have witnesses. Despite the House not calling these people to testify, Schiff now wants the Senate to do his bidding.

Schiff wants ex-National Security Advisor John Bolton and Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney to testify to find out what they know about Ukraine dealings with leader Volodymyr Zelensky.

This is a slippery slope because as the President’s defense team pointed out, they get witnesses too. That would include Joe and Hunter Biden, the whistleblower and Schiff himself.

That of course would set off a barrage of legal fights by the House Dems. Schiff has already claimed that the whistleblower and his staff have been threaten and harassed over the claims of the whistleblower.

There is also secret testimony from the intelligence community Inspector General Michael Atkinson given in the House bunker that Schiff has not released, which I wrote about on Wednesday. Allegedly this testimony puts the whistleblower in a different light by suggesting some of his written and sworn testimony to Atkinson was untruthful and wrong.

Surely Schiff would seek immunity for himself from testifying. We may see some of that defense come from the House members today by answering further softball questions from Senate Democrats Thursday.

On Friday’s vote on whether to call witnesses or not all that is needed is a simple majority. Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell, who is a consummate vote counter, may be surprised by the final tally.

I believe Joe Biden still has enough sway in the Senate and could get some Democrats to sustain their votes rather than see his campaign go up in smoke on Capitol Hill.

And you know what — son of a bitch — President Trump would be acquitted.
