How many left-leaning writers will be “social tracing” people in Georgia to see if they begin a second wave of Covid-19 infections due to the state reopening certain retail outlets this week?

While the President questioned some of the moves being made by Rep. Gov. Brian Kemp at Wednesday’s news conference he deferred to his decisions for now.

“I told the governor … that I disagree strongly with his decision to open certain facilities which are in violation of the phase one guidelines for the incredible people of Georgia.

“But at the same time, he must do what he thinks is right, I want him to do what he thinks is right.”

Trump worried about the reopening of beauty salons, barber shops, spas and tattoo parlors as being too aggressive. However, The White House is looking to Georgia as being the test case for getting America back to work sooner rather than later.

What really hangs in the balance in Georgia is whether this will be a lost summer for America as it moves into the 2020 election. To that end Democratic pundits will be scouring the data to see if Covid-19 infections climb soon after the reopening.

It would be the same dribble from the Democrats as “He waited too long,” only this time flipped to “He didn’t wait long enough.”

So while the President has a “I told you card” in his pocket, know for sure he is behind Gov. Kemp to succeed and to succeed quickly.

As I wrote Wednesday, the scare tactics with projections of horrendous levels of death have really not materialized so it’s time to let America get back to work.

In an article in the New England Journal of Medicine dated Mar. 26, 2020 lead writer NIAID chief Dr. Anthony Fauci and colleagues postulated that the Covid-19 mortality rate may be not higher than a severe flu outbreak once the real level of infection is known.

This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.

So while advising President Trump to close down the economy in mid-March because there could be 200,000 US deaths from Covid-19,  Dr. Fauci had already written and submitted a paper suggesting that the pandemic may not be so draconian when all the data comes in on overall infection rates.

It’s time for all Americans to become Georgia Bulldog fans and root for the state to pave the way for a return to the “new normal.” Whatever that will look like.
