One citizen, one vote except here in New York City should the City Council pass a measure Wednesday that would allow almost 600,000 illegal aliens to vote in local elections.
As it stands now, these non-citizens would be eligible to vote in all New York City elections, but not state or federal tallies.
What does that mean for your vote in New York City? Everything!
Why would someone who may be getting city benefits for housing or other social stipends care very much about a politician’s view on taxes or crime? They have very little skin in the game because they do not wish to get citizenship here.
This measure is so outlandish that even outgoing New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio questions its’ lawfulness. The mayor has stated, “There’s obviously an argument: We want people involved, we want to hear people’s voices,” he said.
“I still have a concern about it. Citizenship has an extraordinary value. People work so hard for it,” he said. “We need people in every good way to want to be citizens.”
So if de Blasio is questioning the legitimacy of the measure then it must be a future problem in the courts.
The laughable proposal would allow non-citizens who have been lawful permanent residents of the city for at least 30 days, as well as those authorized to work in the U.S., including so-called “Dreamers,” to help select the city’s mayor, city council members, borough presidents, comptroller and public advocate.
Get that, lawful permanent residents of the city for at least 30 days. The 30 days is quite a high bar for people to endure. They would have to commit to be here a month before registering to vote for city offices, which also means city services.
The Democrats don’t care if you paid taxes for 30 years and fought in a war, these new people committed a month ago to come here and they have the same rights as you.
It is absolutely disgusting what this city has become. But don’t look at the ballot box for any solution because almost 11% of the possible voters would not be citizens and have no skin in the game.
