New York metro-area business groups have made a direct plea to President Trump to bail out the region, since the Democrats can’t save the area.

On Monday, three regional business groups sent a SOS letter to The White House decrying the economic depression being forced down the throats of metro-area business owners by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

As the leading business organizations in America’s largest metropolitan region, we are writing to respectfully request that the federal government responds to the unprecedented economic fallout caused by Covid-19 by appropriating essential funding to major transit systems, including the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (“MTA”), and state and local governments which are on the brink of having to lay off police officers, fire fighters, emergency service personnel and others from the public workforce that could consequently jeopardize public safety and thus our economy.

The letter was signed by Marsha Gordon, President & CEO, The Business Council of Westchester; Kevin Law, President & CEO, Long Island Association and  Kathryn Wylde, President & CEO, Partnership for New York City.

Monday’s letter was a follow up to last week’s missive to de Blasio demanding he bring back law and order and quality of life to the city after a spate of shootings during the Covid-19 lockdown.

In the letter the business leaders cite the once great economic engine that was NY City’s metro area.

New York City, Long Island and Westchester together represent 63 percent of New York State’s population and 75 percent of the state’s Gross Domestic Product (“GDP”). Combined, they represent 4 percent of the nation’s population and 6 percent of GDP. And the MTA service region, which represents 10 percent of the nation’s economic output, is the lifeblood of that economic vitality. This is why it is imperative that you negotiate the agreement that provides dedicated funding for mass transit systems, which are suffering an existential fiscal crisis as a result of Covid-19’s impact on ridership and revenues. Without federal relief, this will further devastate businesses that rely on mass transit and also constrain the national economic recovery.

Unfortunately all the numbers cited have fallen off the charts — including population — since the latest statistics show NYers are fleeing at a greater rate now then the 1,000 a day reported last year.

Neither Cuomo nor de Blasio want to make the hard choices to save New York. Their actions have devastated the tourism industry with hotels filled with homeless people. The nightly shootings have most Manhattan workers staying home  thereby crippling retailers and the ban on indoor dining has forced the closure of roughly 30% of restaurants and bars in the city.

Cuomo has gone so far to alienate himself from Trump that he warned last week that the President would need an army if he came to Gotham.

Well the commander of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines is now being invited by business people to be the conquering hero and release the city from its Democratic-controlled shackles.
