New York City has been named an “anarchist jurisdiction” by the US Justice Department for its dreadful leadership under Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Portland, Ore., and Seattle, Wash., are also on the list that was announced Monday morning by US Attorney General William Barr in a written statement.
This dubious distinction comes after de Blasio and the city council approved a measure to slash $1 billion defunding the police initiative in July.
“When state and local leaders impede their own law-enforcement officers and agencies from doing their jobs, it endangers innocent citizens who deserve to be protected, including those who are trying to peacefully assemble and protest,” Barr wrote.
“We cannot allow federal tax dollars to be wasted when the safety of the citizenry hangs in the balance,’’ Barr added.
The “anarchist jurisdiction” label puts some of the the city’s $7 billion in annual federal aid in jeopardy. No cuts have been announced as of yet, but law enforcement aid will not be cut, according to officials.
President Trump has vowed to make law and order a centerpiece of his re-election campaign and part of that effort is to defund cities who allow riots and non-peaceful protests to continue while putting citizens in harms way.
After New York City cut the police budget and curtailed arrests crime it the city exploded as shootings rose more than 250% over the following two months and murders rose triple digits as well.
I await Cuomo’s and de Blasio’s reaction to the news later this morning.
What interesting Puzzle Pieces are assembling!!! 😉
