Perhaps it would have been better if President Joe Biden could use Veep Kamala Harris’ answer on going to the southern border by saying. “Ack, ack, ack. I’ve not been to Europe either.”
Biden’s G-7 and NATO meetings have been gaffe-riddled from throwing shade on Queen Elizabeth (to disguise his dilated pupils perhaps), to mistaking the Syrian and Libyan leaders a three times and then showing up 3 hours late for a NATO press briefing.
Now admittedly most of the heavy lifting is done in backroom negotiations at these events, but when the President averages more than one gaffe a day, the US is not dealing from a strong position.
Given that Biden is scheduled to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Wednesday in an 18th-century Swiss villa overlooking Lake Geneva, let’s hope he gets some rest and doesn’t need to wear his sunglasses at night.
There has been a 64-percent spike in shootings in New York City this year versus last — representing 721 people wounded or killed by gunfire in 634 separate incidents, according to the latest NYPD statistics.
I willing to estimate that 99.9% of those shooting were done with an illegal firearm and yet in every mention of gun control by Democrats they want to take away the ability of law abiding citizens to carry a weapon.
Listen you took the plain-clothes officers off the street and put them back in uniform. These patrols were responsible for taking many guns off the street, because quite frankly will you pull a gun when a uniform is present? No you wait.
Would not a would-be gun assailant also think twice if he thought his victim might be carrying a legal weapon? By handcuffing the police and law-abiding citizens you get these soaring shooting numbers, including a broad-daylight shooting in Times Square.
Mayor Bill de Blasio believes that the more people who return to the city the safer the streets and subways will be.
I look at it the other way. It will only give illegal gun-toting assailants a more target-rich environment to feast on their prey.
One last note. Happy belated 75th birthday to former President Donald Trump, who of course was born on Flag Day.
